Angel of the North? Athony Gormley’s iconic statue has become a symbol of the city of Newcastle, and is a must visit for fantastic views over Newcastle and Gateshead.

City Centre? Newcastle Walks offer 5 minutes walks suitable for lunchtime, taking in different aspects of the city.

Country walks? Scenic walks in the surrounding countryside offer hills to climb and access to beautiful beaches.

Cycle enthusiasts? There are some fantastic cycle routes past the hotel, Route 72 follows the old wagon ways all the way to Tynemouth (a 10 mile ride) or to Wylam (also a 10 mile ride).

Dining

Newcastle's Quayside district is our closest neighbour, buzzing with trendy bars and hip eateries.. pie and peas.

Trakol - amazing restaurant right on the quayside overlooking the river, inside and outside seating. Only 10 minute scenic walk from the hotel.

Tomahawk – Lovely restaurant, views of the river – 5 minute walk from the hotel (just down the road) fantastic service and most importantly amazing food.

Gusto – Lovely restaurant again super close just down the road and all of our guests receive a 10% off the bill if you show the Staybridge keycard.

Beaches

Let’s set sail - Here is a top 10 of best beaches near Newcastle. We recommend Marsden Beach, an hidden gem just on the outskirts of South Shields.

Like Newcastle Brown Ale? The best known regional beer is still brewed in the city. Make sure to try some on tap while in town.

Craft beer tour? Visit some of the city’s tap rooms and enjoy guided tastings.

Brew Pub? The Bridge Tavern sits just below the Tyne bridge brews its own ales and serves tasty homemade bar snacks. Gin distillery? Newcastle Gin has earned a firm fanbase and offers tours and tastings. Bealim House offers gin tastings and even an afternoon G & Tea experience.

Cocktails and Craft Beer? Pleased To Meet You specialises in gin cocktails and also boasts one of the widest ranging library of craft beers in Newcastle. Their restaurant serves hearty classics.

Families

Science? The Centre for Life is a science village with interactive exhibitions that will keep the family entertained – and kids go free! There’s a planetarium and even a 4D virtual adventure ride.

Animals & Outdoors? Ouseburn City Farm is 10 Minutes walk from the hotel, and has piglets and lambs to visit and feed. There are great learning activities and the farm has been educating children for 40 years!

Love Books? The Seven Stories Centre, aka the National Centre for Children’s Books has a full calendar of games, performances, exhibitions, and even sensory backpacks for children to wear while they explore.

Museums & Galleries

Independents? The Biscuit Factory is the UK’s largest independent commercial art gallery. Home to over 100 artists, craftsmen and designers. There is also a cafe and a popular pop-up restaurant on site.

Contemporary? Housed in a former flour mill next to the Biscuit Factory, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art is a feast for the senses, with exhibitions that include modern and immersive art.

Sports Fans

Football fans take note! You can walk to Newcastle United stadium in 15 minutes from the hotel. Our mascot Ted is a big fan of local rugby heroes, the Newcastle Falcons, their field is 10 minutes by car.

Basketball stadium, only 10 minutes drive from the hotel – opened last year.

Emirates Riverside, well known county cricket and England match venue – Only 25 minute drive from Newcastle.

Nightlife

The Sage hosts a variety of rock gigs and classical concerts in its glass-and-chrome building, just a 15-minute walk from the hotel.
