Top 10 Live Music Venues In Liverpool

Liverpool is well known for its musical heritage, with several of the world’s best known performers originating from the city. Hailed as the Capital of Culture in 2008, Liverpool has been home to fantastic bands and solo artists - the most famous of course being The Beatles.

Today, Liverpool celebrates its thriving music scene at many great venues. Live music venues can be found tucked away in all corners of the city, with everything from intimate cosy spaces to grand concert halls to choose from. Book a stay in one of our Liverpool apartments and immerse yourself in some of our favourite music venues. These are the ones to look out for.

Arts Club

Liverpool’s Arts Club has an epic history, having showcased some hugely talented artists in its time. It was once home to the famous club night Circus, hosted by [DJ] Yousef, and later transformed into a theatrical live music venue for a wide variety of different performers. Today, it’s one of the best spots in Liverpool to catch emerging new talent before they become household names.

The Shipping Forecast

Part of a small chain which also includes A Nation of Shopkeepers in Leeds, and Sheffield’s ever-popular Bungalows and Bears, The Shipping Forecast is a must for live music fans. The Liverpool venue is spread over three floors, and has a great collection of DJs playing throughout the week. Downstairs you’ll find The Hold, which is dedicated to the best live music in town.

The Caledonia

Some of the world’s best-loved jazz and rockabilly music originated from Liverpool, and the scene remains hugely popular throughout Merseyside. The Caledonia is the place to go to experience it for yourself. You’ll find it on Catharine Street, nestled amongst a number of other brilliant music venues. We highly recommend going to see The Loose String Band, who perform at the venue once every fortnight.

Philharmonic Hall

For the ultimate concert hall experience, book tickets at the Philharmonic Hall. This beautiful art deco building hosts some of the city’s most exciting concerts, and there are plenty of different options to choose from. Amongst the calendar of performances you’ll find relaxed options for families, and accessible shows like Leap into Live Music.

Revolución de Cuba

For something completely different, definitely visit Revolución de Cuba. This authentic Cuban bar transforms into a bright, bold and brilliant sounding fiesta each night. There are always great Latin musicians performing, and you can sample a menu of delicious food and drink inspired by Cuban classics. Once you head inside you’ll see why this live music venue has become such a favourite with locals.

Studio2 Parr Street

Studio2 Parr Street isn’t just a music venue. It’s also a recording studio, with two bars and a boutique hotel all packed inside. The live recording studio has been used by the likes of Coldplay, Elbow and Barry Manilow - to name but a few of its famous guests. Next door is Studio2, which looks exactly the same as the real recording studio, except for the addition of a bar for guests to enjoy as they listen to the evening’s line up of acoustic and jazz performers. There’s even a club upstairs, known as The Attic, where you can unwind and enjoy soul, funk and indie music long into the night.

Bierkeller Liverpool

If you love beer and have always dreamed of partaking in Munich’s famous Oktoberfest, then a trip to Bierkeller in Liverpool is the next best thing. Step inside and you’ll immediately be transported to the heart of Bavaria, with themed decor and authentic German beer galore. There’s a brilliantly entertaining Oompah band on hand to bring the spirit of Oktoberfest to life, and the best part is it’s available every week of the year!

Jimmy's Liverpool

Jimmy’s is a vast pub in the heart of the city, which is well known for its live music events. Set over three storeys, this well-known pub is a go to venue for everything from Sunday roasts to hearty brunches. There are often club nights and live music events on the agenda, but if you’re not in the mood for music you can also book a ticket for one of the regular poetry and comedy events instead. See what’s on at Jimmy’s while you’re in Liverpool - we guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Leaf

Leaf is one of the most unusual live music venues you’ll ever come across. It began as a small tea shop, quickly evolving into a bustling city centre venue hosting album launches, intimate acoustic gigs and even vintage markets. As well as music, the tea shop welcomes guests for its regular Pudding Club, where puddings are expertly matched to complementary cups of loose leaf tea. Take a look at Leaf’s online calendar of events to find out what’s happening at the tea shop during your stay in the city. There’s always something intriguing to enjoy at this brilliant Bold Street venue.

Lanigans

If it’s a traditional Irish bar you’re looking for, you’ve got to head to Lanigans. This Liverpool bar is run by Lanigans of Kilkenny, and is as authentic as it gets. At the bar you’ll find a huge variety of Irish Whiskeys, Gins, Beers and Porters, and of course there’s always plenty of Guinness to enjoy here too. There’s live music at Lanigans every Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and every Friday night there are live DJs. The bar also caters for special occasions such as birthday parties, stag and hen dos, communions and other important celebrations. Talk to the Lanigans team to find out more.
