Dundee is well known for its great restaurants. There are hundreds of fantastic places to choose from, with incredible foodie finds just waiting to be discovered all over the city. Whether you’re looking for traditional Scottish fare, an indulgent brunch, an exotic feast or a snack that’s all the colours of the rainbow, you’ll be able to find it in Dundee. Take a look at some of our favourite Dundee restaurants, bars and food shops to see what awaits you on your next stay in the city.

Tahini Dundee

Lebanese food might not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think about what to eat in Dundee, but few restaurants are as interesting or exciting as Tahini. This traditional restaurant specialises in dishes from Lebanon and the Mediterranean. It makes a great destination for fun family meals out and romantic date nights alike. Order from the extensive list of hot and cold mezze and prepare for a feast like no other.

Daisy Tasker

Housed within boutique hotel Indigo Dundee, Daisy Tasker is another of our favourite spots in the city. It was named in tribute to a young mill worker, who was well known for bringing people together for social events. Raising a toast in her honour, the restaurant specialises in traditional Scottish cuisine. Tuck into a starter of arbroath smokie risotto or duck leg and fig terrine, before an indulgent main of burgundy beef with seasonal root vegetables. The desserts are exceptional too, especially Daisy Tasker’s famous lavender panna cotta.

The Parlour

We love the originality of the dishes on offer at The Parlour. The team are hugely creative, coming up with all kinds of inspiring new takes on old favourites. The Parlour is popular all day long, but its brunch specials are particularly well known amongst locals. Head here for the most amazing shakshuka baked Turkish eggs - it just might be the best brekkie in Dundee.

Gallery 48

Looking for something a little out of the ordinary? Then you’ll love Gallery 48. This bar and restaurant meet exhibition space are perfect for those who want to see a whole new side to Dundee. Tuck into a delicious selection of Spanish tapas dishes as you explore the modern art on display. The walls feature the work of both well established and up and coming artists, and there’s always something brand new to feast your eyes on.

172 At The Caird

If you’re planning to spend an evening at the theatre, there’s no better place to head for pre or post theatre dining than 172 At The Caird. This contemporary restaurant is in the heart of Dundee’s cultural quarter, within easy reach of a whole host of shows, concerts and gigs. Enjoy a seasonal menu that fuses some of the world’s favourite cuisines, along with plenty of great Scottish classics. The cocktails are incredible too.

The Cheesery

If you find yourself craving cheese while you’re out and about exploring Dundee, The Cheesery is where you need to go. Only a minute’s walk from Dundee High Street, this specialist cheese shop is not to be missed. The Cheesery sells fantastic cheeses of the highest quality, with both regional and continental artisan cheese on their shelves. There are also brand new cheeses on offer weekly. We’re always tempted!

The Flame Tree Cafe

The Flame Tree Cafe made a name for itself by selling the most amazing rainbow bagels we’ve ever seen - and we still recommend visiting for these alone. But if you don’t fancy a rainbow bagel, there are plenty of other delicious treats to choose from here. Enjoy indulgent cakes, fruit smoothies, decadent milkshakes and all the breakfast and brunch classics. The coffee is fantastic too - perfect if you’ve had a late night the night before.

Oshibori

Oshibori takes the best British seasonal produce, and turns it into a work of art in food form! This Japanese restaurant sources its fish from famous Scottish supplier George Campbell & Sons and uses the finest daily catches in its high end menu of sushi and sashimi. Skilled sushi chefs work their magic, serving up Japanese food that’s both creative and exciting. Take a look at the chef’s specials on your visit. The golden beef or guruden gyuniku was our favourite dish, closely followed by the green chicken, otherwise known as gurin delight.

Bruach Bar and Restaurant

Named after the Gaelic name for the area, Bruach Tatha, the Bruach Bar and Restaurant takes its heritage seriously. The restaurant menu brings together seasonal Scottish produce and unusual, modern cooking techniques, to offer guests a whole host of flavours they’ll never have tried before. Classics on the menu include the loin of Inverurie pork, and West Coast mussels served in an indulgent sauce of garlic and white wine. There’s a brilliant cocktail menu to enjoy here, and if you’re feeling brave enough you can even give cocktail making a try at one of the bartender’s classes.

Collinsons

Head to the Broughty Ferry area to enjoy fine dining with a Scottish twist at Collinsons. This restaurant has been serving incredible seasonal food since 2012, and it remains one of the most popular spots in the city. We love the creative lunch and dinner menus, which feature dishes like goat's cheese, caramelised onion and spinach pithivier and pan-roasted loin of roe deer with port wine and cassis. The desserts are amazing too, make sure you leave room for the sticky date and ginger pudding with toffee and pecan nut sauce.

Pacamara

Start your day in Dundee with breakfast at Pacamara. This breakfast and brunch restaurant is the perfect place to relax in the mornings, and it’ll definitely get you fully fueled for a busy day’s exploring. There are plenty of Scottish classics on the menu, along with traditional favourites like eggs benedict, pancakes, waffles and delicious sourdough toast. If you’re visiting a little later in the day, you’ll be spoilt for choice by the brunch and lunch menus featuring buttermilk fried chicken burgers, Columbian Eggs and the ever-popular Huevos Pacamara with salsa and pico de gallo. In fact, you might even have to pop back a few times to sample everything on offer here.
